Our Story
Just five months ago, we set out with a dream, to bring authentic Nepalese and Indian cooking to the Peak District. What started as a small family-run kitchen inside the Charles Cotton Hotel has grown into one of the most-loved new restaurants near Buxton, with locals from Hartington, Bakewell, Ashbourne and Leek already calling us their go-to curry house. Every dish is made fresh, halal, and rooted in real flavour. Our promise is simple: traditional taste, trusted quality, and a warm welcome, exactly what Nepalese hospitality is built on.
Nepalese Hospitality, Indian Cuisine
Our restaurant proudly celebrates the heritage of two great cooking traditions. From the warmth and generosity of Gurkha hospitality, to the deep, layered spice work of North Indian cuisine, every plate at Hartington Spice tells a story. In Nepal and India, food has always been at the centre of family life. We carry that idea into the dining room: dishes are made to be shared, conversation slows down, and a meal becomes a moment. Whether you're stopping in after a Peak District walk, staying at the hotel, or driving over from Buxton or Bakewell, expect a meal that feels like home.
Halal Indian & Nepalese Food in the Peak District
Hartington Spice is fully halal-certified, one of the only halal Indian restaurants in the Buxton area and the Peak District. Every meat dish on the menu, from our tandoori starters to our slow-cooked curries, uses halal-sourced chicken, lamb and goat. Ordered a takeaway, collected at time requested. Lovely people great service. The food was excellent, haven't had an Indian like this for ages. We come from the Midlands, home of the curry, Harrington spice out ranked anything we get down our way, wish we lived closer.Posted on T MTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This is a well-above-average Indian restaurant hiding in a small Derbyshire village. Everything was delicious and much better than equivalent dishes in typical Indian restaurants - better than many places in Manchester, for example. The garlic chilli chicken was fantastic and absolutely packed with flavour. Our party also loved the Madras, and even the Biryani and Saagwala (which are usually a bit blander) were delicious. Highly recommend to people that like tasty Indian food - we’ll be back!Posted on Syed Ibrahim ShahTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Came to Peak District from London for a hike and came across this restaurant. It is quite new and located inside of a pub so you can wait around for a bit for a table as the locals have already packed this place out. The staff need a little more training but they did the best they could and provided a decent service. I can say that the food was absolutely excellent, very flavourful and had a twist to it. Their food is also halal which is a bonus for anyone looking for a halal option. Coming from a Londoner, their food is better than a lot of places. It’s worth a try and definitely worth the money!Posted on Simon MurdockTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My review for this place is very simple! Great food and great staff. Harry and the team are fantastic and genuinely care about making sure you have a great experience and enjoy the food they clearly love to make. 10/10 for me — if you want some really great food, get yourself in here!Posted on Amyjayne BoothTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
